Negativ:: zum Parken muss man ins Parkhaus um die Ecke: ca. 12 Euro pro Nacht extra rechnen. Wartezeiten beim Frühstück, da nach 9 Uhr diverses ausgegangen war und der Nachschub stockte - Das Rührei zum wie gesagt ansonsten guten Frühstück war eine Zumutung.

Negativ:: Great hotel but attitude of staff at reception unacceptable. Despite upfront committed promise by hotel (i.e. at booking more than month in advance) of providing us with connecting rooms, this appeared unavailable at check-in... After asking and eventually involving hotel management, staff promised to have connecting rooms available for day 2 to 4 of our stay. However, at day 2, there were again no connecting rooms available. And not for the entire length of our stay. Travelling with young kids, the availability of connecting rooms was our reason for choosing this hotel. No compensation, no token of good will, no excuses by staff, no ask by staff whether we enjoyed our stay at check-out... Simply rude behaviour of staff... First and last time for us.

Positiv:: Staying at the Splendid exceeded our expectations in every possible way. It is located in the heart of Dax and everything is at walking distance. The room was huge, super-clean and quiet, with a great view to the city. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The spa facilities were excellent, though a bit crowded during our visit.

Negativ:: Hotel does not offer parking so we had to pay for on-street parking nearby. The breakfast buffet was okay but not to the same standard as the rest of the hotel - still good value though. The staff working evening shift at the hotel terrace bar were terrible, took them 45 minutes to take our order and 30 more minutes to serve our drinks, followed by finger food (which was not what we ordered).

Negativ:: No private parking but paid city parking next to the hotel. Very limited pool hours for children under 15. No parking in the city center during the week long Féria de Dax, the yearly cultural city celebration in August around August 15.

Negativ:: Because the day of our arrival, was the day after the “fetes de Dax” the staff was very tired which seemed an excuse for everything. The reception seemed understaffed, or at least unwilling to help . The restaurant was closed, just like almost all other restaurants in town. We were not previously informed, there was no alternative (a sandwich would have done). The waiter told the woman at the table next to us that she should just finish the peanuts if she was so hungry. If it wouldn’t have been for the man in the street we asked and who after some calls walked us to one of the few restaurants that was open that night, we wouldn’t have eaten at all. Unworthy for a hotel of this statue to not take care of your clients.

Positiv:: Check in was great. Receptionist was professional and welcoming. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. It was a hot day and staff offered a fan for the room which we gratefully accepted.

Negativ:: It’s 2019 and yet the restaurant had no vegetarian options for dinner. We were offered salad from the salad bar but salad alone isn’t a wholesome meal and no effort was made to accommodate our dietary needs. All it takes is a heated can of lentils or chickpeas on a plate of pasta or rice... We walked to another hotel to eat.

We would have probably liked the location more if we had been given a lakeside view but we appreciated the small balcony with table and chairs. The bathroom was modern and spacious and the ample availability of plug outlets and USB sockets were appreciated as was the wi fi which worked throughout the night without having to be re-set.

Negativ:: AIR CONDITIONING! We were at the hotel when the early evening temperature was 32c and to get to our room and find that it had no air conditioning in what is a frequently hot area of France. Unbelievable! The hotel has no a/c in any rooms. However the central heating radiator in our room was floor to ceiling in height and was double width so possibly this would be a great location in mid winter. The restaurant menu did not appeal so we went in Dax and enjoyed our choice.

Positiv:: The suite we had was on the ground floor so no fighting through the hotel with our dog! The suite has tons of room and a balcony so plenty of room for your dog overnight. Air conditioning is great in the summer. A very comfortable and spotlessly clean room, quiet too. Eating out on the terrace with our dog was no problem, the staff even bought a bowl of water for her without us asking! Not sure how we will fare in the winter though as dogs aren’t allowed in the restaurant so looks like it will be room service!!!! Food is great too! There is a nice sized lake across the toad which is a great dog walk for the morning before travelling again and there are plenty of street lights for an evening walk too. Just wish it wasn’t so far from the motorway! A great stopover on the way to Andalucia with a dog or a family!

Positiv:: Breakfast was good and unusually included a limited selection of hot food (scrambled egg, bacon, frankfurter sausage). The receptionist only charged for two dogs (we had three small dogs). The location, right next to the large attractive lake, is great in good weather (it was) and a pre-dinner walk round the lake sharpens the appetite wonderfully.

Negativ:: The ensuite has a shower over a bath. At our age (in our 70s) stepping into and out of a wet bath carries unnecessary risks. The hotel should consider refurbishing some rooms to offer a walk-in shower. There was a limited choice of reasonable priced food for dinner. Consequently we opted for the a la carte option. The overall price was double what we would normally expect to pay for dinner. Having said that, the food was exceptional and well worth the price.

Positiv:: The hotel is peaceful and relax. It suits a stop;over to break a long journey back home. We stay to go to a funeral. It was fine. The restaurant is good accommodating our vegetarian diete.

Negativ:: We arrive at 6 pm wanting a drink, to be told that the bar does not open until 7:15 pm. This is not good service. Friend should be told to bring they ice box and other needed emergency supplies.

Positiv:: The only thing to like about this property was its location. It was by a lovely recreational lake which was good for walking and picnics.

Negativ:: The carpets in the hotel were filthy, the staff were unhelpful. No food or drinks available in the actual hotel. We asked for some extra tea bags, to make a drink in our room, but were refused and told each room was only allowed two Tea bags! The bathroom was filthy, the grouting and silicone around the tiles and taps were covered in black mould The décor and soft furnishings in the room were all grubby and dated.

Negativ:: Absence of staff to get rowdy guests who went on noisily until 4am to be quiet and respect other guest’s right to sleep. Simply unacceptable. In the morning, Reception staff said there was nothing they could do. We are extremely angry, disappointed and feel we did not get our 180 € ‘s worth. Never again shall we stay there nor will we recommend the hotel.

Negativ:: Very spooky at night. Felt deserted, a bit like the hotel in the shining! I was bitten by insects as soon as I got out of the car.

Negativ:: We arrived approx 9.30pm, reception closed as stated and keys where they said they wud be. The complex quite spooky at night and majority of lights on time sensors. My 9 year old got very nervous and we eventually found our room that was unbearably hot as no windows open. Rooms very basic, they were very clean and beds comfortable. Ok for a quick stop over or somewhere to put ur head down for a few hours.

Negativ:: Staff. When I called to enquire if there were vacancies i was asked if I had a reservation and replied No. Staff replied "Too Bad". Not impressed. Booked online as only way to enquire if a room was available. Room smelly. Car Park not easily signposted. No Menu in Restaurant told Menus only available in my room.

Negativ:: The decor is in need of modernization but it is clean and doesn't actually detract from the practicality of the stay.

Positiv:: Das Essen am Abend Buffet war sehr gut. Reichhaltig und frisch. Sehr freundliches Personal.

Negativ:: Die Ausstattung ist sehr veraltet und abgenutzt. Das Badezimmer, die Räumlichkeiten allgemein sollten mal erneuert werden. Aber es war sehr sauber.

Positiv:: Very accomodating staff, elderly lady travelling alone, i asked for a ground floor room for ease, and close parking, ( i dont travel light, and i need lots of things with me, so ground floor makes it easier)

Negativ:: The aircon was noisy...BUT better noisy than none at all haha the rooms are a little dated but the kettle and comfort make up for it.

Positiv:: The bed is a good size and comfortable and The shower was clean and powerful . The price is good too.

Negativ:: The rooms are dark but you get what you pay for and we were staying for one night on the way to Le Havre from Spain

Negativ:: Wir waren vor 2 Jahren auch ein paar Tage in diesem Hotel. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt war der Zustand der Anlage noch in Ordnung. Zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt kann man nur sagen, das das Haus sich in einem total schlechten Zustand befindet. Die Zugangswege sind verschmutzt und vermoost. Die Dachrinnen sich nicht gereinigt, so dass bei Regen das Wasser überläuft. Vor unserem Zimmer (Zimmer 31) schoss das Wasser lautstark auf den Boden und lief in unser Zimmer als wir die Tür öffneten. Auch die Qualität des Vorspeisenbüffets am Abend lässt zu wünschen übrig. Salate und Wurst waren nicht frisch.
