Hotel Puerta de Toledo

Don't bother...hostels are more comfortable.

The location is good and is only about fifteen minutes walking from Plaza Mayor. The surrounding neighborhood has a lot of bars and stores.

The beds are EXTREMELY uncomfortable--the floor is a more comfortable bed than the actual bed. When we inquired at the front desk, reception rudely said that the mattresses are changed every two years and there is nothing they can do. There were no other rooms available. The room is in desperate need of updates. The restaurant that is a part of the hotel is HORRIBLE. We ordered drinks at the bar. One of our drinks sat at the bar even though the bartender said the server would bring the drink to the table. We had to get the drink. The sandwiches we ordered were cold--even though they were to be hot. The bread was overcooked. The steak was overcooked--likely re-heated. Disgusting. For a three star hotel, this is unacceptable. A hostel would have been a better choice...even if it meant sharing a room with ten people. We will not stay again.
