Negativ:: Although I love animals, it was a little painful to see them jailed. The breakfast room was a little too packed but it was also high season. It would have been nice to have some hot elements to the breakfast too (E.g. eggs).

Positiv:: The farm is amazing. It is super relaxed the chill with the animals. The owners are really nice and friendly.

Positiv:: It is easy to be comfortable as soon as you walk in the door. We did not have a car and were encouraged by Susanna to use her refrigerator to keep a couple of our food items that we brought with us. She had fruit, cakes, coffee, and water out all day and night. We could come and go as we pleased and took some spectacular pictures of the Milky Way. The house and property has been in the family for over 300 years! The antiques and heirlooms are so special. As well as the relaxing places to lounge outside. Muito Obrigada!

Positiv:: Great welcome by Susana. We were a bit early but could check in immediately. Comfortable and spacious rooms. Nice attitude towards the animals they care for. They even switched off the light in the garden so that we could admire the starry sky even better. Nice view on Monsaraz and the lakes of the Rio Guadiana. Would definitely recommend this location for a stay in Alentejo

Positiv:: Das Hotel ist ein Traum im Lanhausstil. Das Grundstück mit 780 ha und tausenden Olivenbäumen ist herrlich zu erkunden. Sehr schön ist auch der kleine Hotel eigene Laden mit Wein und Olivenöl.

Positiv:: Everything - stunning property, acres of beauty. The staff are better than you find at top resort chains like the Four Seasons. The food is fresh and delicious. Wine is very very good. Pool area is perfect and private, comfortable lounging. Amenities in the room are also top notch. This place is on my top three, a must.

Negativ:: Absolutely nothing. It’s perfect.

Negativ:: The swimming pool is more of a paddling pool not a proper pool

The stunning property, the spacious cottage, the super friendly staff, the great food, the wine (!) the space, the playroom, the walks on the estate, the pools.. it really exceeded my expectations! We travelled with a baby and everything was provided for him; even a little baby soap and cream! And the staff was so Wonderfull! What we also liked is that the property is very spacious. We could easily sit somewhere in the garden to play with our baby without disturbing other guests.

Negativ:: Loved it all! If I can name one thing it is the price; but giving what you receive for that it is very well worth it!

Negativ:: Der Service im Frühstücksraum und in der Bar war zu langsam und es wurden keine kompetenten Fachkräfte eingesetzt (hilfloser Anfänger beim Frühstück, der kaum Interesse an seiner Tätigkeit zeigte). 15' auf ein Omlett warten und dann nicht das bestellte einfach auf den Tisch gestellt bekommen ist bei solchen Preisen unmöglich. Die Dusche über der Badewanne - bei jedem Gebrauch eine Überschwemmung - entsprach nicht dem Zimmerpreis.

Positiv:: A wonderful farmhouse hotel in the middle of stunning countryside and just below the gorgeous village of Monsaraz. Very family friendly, lovely owner and staff. Very relaxing stay. We are already planning to return.

Positiv:: The place is adorable. Not only it's located closely to several attractions (Monsaraz castle, Alentejo lake, wineries, distilleries, cork plantations, Evora town, observatory, water and motor sport centers), it also has an authentic and inviting atmosphere. The owner, Sergio, is very helpful and responsive. He is passionate about the region and knows quite a lot about it. The pool is a great place to hide from the heat at day and sip wine nearby by night. The breakfast is simple, but very good.

Positiv:: Excellent breakfast (you can eat inside or outside), quite place for rest in the vacation or weekend. The owner is always available for any questions you have, very friendly person, excellent hospitality! Five stars :)

Positiv:: Das beste was man sich wünschen kann, wenn man eine familiäre, herzliche und stressfreie Atmosphäre zum Ausspannen wünscht. Wohnen, Essen, Landschaft - alles Top! Und ein sehr beeindruckender Gastgeber, der weiß was zu tun ist um diesen Ort zu einem kleinen Paradies zu machen.

Positiv:: The place is gorgeous and amazing. You feel at home however it’s a magnificent home! Sergio the host is so friendly and kind and welcoming. He provided us lunch even if not booked in advance and at the very last second, sharing with us what he had done for his own family: 3 enormous portions of Bacalhau a Natas (29 euros). We enjoyed the swimming pool and the relaxing garden. The room and the interiors make you feel you are a nobleman form the past. Great place indeed!

Positiv:: The location is great if you are travelling by car, close enough to the town and castle of Monsaraz and to the artificial beach of Monsaraz. It is an excellent place to stay if you wish to spend a few days visiting the Alqueva Lake. The two outdoor swimming pools are nice and well exposed. The property is walled, with plenty of parking place inside, close to the rooms. The buffet breakfast is great. It has a small bar service for drinks and quick meals. The staff is nice and helpful.

Positiv:: Sehr gute Lage für Ausflüge ins Alentejo. Wir bekamen ein kostenloses Upgrade und haben in den bequemen Betten sehr gut geschlafen. Personal war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Kostenlose Parkplätze direkt in der Anlage.

Positiv:: Breakfaste was good, there is room for improvement, for example having more home cooked croissants and more bread variety. But it's still quite nice. The location was really good, very calm place and the Alqueva beach is right next to it. And there is an awesome view to Monsaraz.

Negativ:: Some small improvements like having in the kitchen separate garbage disposals for recycling.

Positiv:: Bed was large and very comfy Pool had a nice covering section which created shade while in the water. Shower was powerful and very clean -new. Breakfast was peaceful with excellent fresh orange juice.

Negativ:: Check in and check out were extremely slow -the receptionist was not available at first and then when they did show up they did not seem to know what was going on. The pool water was extremely cold much colder than the river beach close by.

Positiv:: Extra comfy bed and lovely shower. Clean pool and beautiful gardens!

Negativ:: The room smelled musty. Pieces of furnitures were covered with dust. (Parts of the hotel is still under construction.) The bedroom did not correspond to the pictures on the site - dark old style with no window while the photo made us expect a bright modern room. The bathroom was extremely exiguous. The staff only speaks Portuguese and seems unable to smile. The reception office smelled smoke. At breakfast, orange juice is mostly orange colored water. The swimming pool cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired.

Positiv:: Die Anlage ist sehr gepflegt. Und von unserer Terrasse hatten wir einen super Ausblick in den Alentejo. Der nahe gelegene und gepflegte Strand am Stausee ist mit dem Auto einfach zu erreichen. Die Nähe zu Monsaraz und anderen Städten wie Elvas, Evora, Estremoz und Serpa macht die kleine Anlage zu einer interessanten Unterkunft, um einen Teil des Alentjo zu erkunden.

Negativ:: Wir haben das Zimmer mit der privaten Terrasse gebucht. Die Terrasse ist tolll, leider hat das dazugehörige Zimmer unsere Erwartungen nicht erfüllt. Das Zimmer ist ungünstig möbliert, so dass das Zimmer sehr klein erscheint. Da auch kein Fenster vorhanden ist, ist es im Zimmer sehr dunkel. Grundsätzlich wieder als Unterkunft für uns denkbar, aber nur mit einem anderen Zimmer.

Positiv:: Everything! Comfy and clean. Warm and incredibly friendly staff. Calm and beautiful location. Loved it. We will be back in October, definitely.

Negativ:: I know they are working on it and for sure it would be nice to have some meals available so you can just hibernate from the city in this beautiful place. Although there are some very nice choices nearby.

Positiv:: the ambience & nice decoration of the room as of the whole place, the location 5 minutes from Monsaraz, the breakfast buffet was very nice & the staff very friendly, the restaurant recommendation was also very good

Negativ:: the shower gasket was not good or at least, the slope of the shower floor not right as water was going out of the shower and the carpet was soaking.. there was no bulb in the table lamps & the fridge was quite noisy

Positiv:: The Horta is a luxurious ranch style building set amongst 800 acres of game reserve and vine with extensive gardens and pool and accomodates either groups in up to ten double rooms or single long or short bookings. The gem is Maria who is a local girl who provides a quiet unobtrusive service to her guests. The Horta is situated in remote countryside but within striking distance of all mjor towns on intrest and close to Evora. A real treat.

Positiv:: Location, staff and rooms are simply charming, the surrounding countryside beautiful. The house is quiet and secluded and yet it is close to Evora and some of the most beautiful locations in Portugal, along the Guadiana Valley. A place anyone should visit and stay in once in one's life ...

Positiv:: Fast wie Ferien auf dem Bauernhof, sehr freundlicher Empfang, inhabergeführt, klein, persönlich, komplett einschl. Pool, sehr gutes Frühstück uund Weine aus der Region, gut für eine Woche.

Negativ:: Etwas abseits gelegen, weder Lunch noch Dinner..

Positiv:: A magical oasis setting, with outdoor pool and seating area in a beautiful garden and orange grove across the fence, and the stunning view of the medieval town of Monsaraz just up the hill. Our room was comfortable and cozy with the fridge stocked with local wine. Breakfasts were delicious with plenty of selection.

Negativ:: The room wasn´t really a "suite" per se. There is a ladder to another two beds upstairs,which is fine for kids but not particularly 60-somethings!

Positiv:: Super Nice staff, great breakfast, beautiful location. Basically no extra sound than nature, very relaxing. Our kids loved the pool and to pick up the oranges. Monsaraz is 5 minutes away with the car and it’s absolutely worth one day visit.

Negativ:: Quite some light goes through the sealing which helped our kids to wake up very early! If you sleep normally, you should be fine.

Positiv:: This is a lovely small place with great rooms. It’s very clean and well-maintained. There’s a kitchen area where you can prepare some small dishes (no oven or stove though). Make sure you book one of the rooms upstairs as downstairs may get noisy as it’s next to the kitchen. Great fast WiFi.

Negativ:: It’s not in the countryside in spite of its name

Positiv:: The room was spacious and it was decorated with a really good taste as was the rest of the hotel. The staff was absolutely lovely. Overall, everything was perfect.

Positiv:: The staff is impeccable, always available to help and provide tips for exploring the region. The breakfast also had a great selection, including local specialties.

Negativ:: Quite loud in the night due to traffic outside even, if it does not look like.

Positiv:: Kleines, sehr aussergewöhnliches (im positiven Sinn) Guesthouse. Sehr freundlicher Empfang, Zimmer wunderbar speziell, tolles Frühstück - von der Besitzerin persönlich vorbereitet. Monsaraz in der Nähe (mit dem Auto ca. 15 Min.) hat einige gute Restaurants, ein gepflegte Altstadt und eine grandiose Aussicht.

Negativ:: Im Ort selbst ist nichts los und wir haben auch kein Restaurant gefunden.

Positiv:: Hier wird man sehr herzlich empfangen und fühlt sich gleich wohl. Das ganze Haus ist mit Liebe eingerichtet und dekoriert. Vor allem das Frühstück ist so lecker zubereitet und auch fürs Auge ein Genuss.

Negativ:: Es gibt nichts, wozu man sagen kann, dass es einem nicht gefallen hat.

Positiv:: The room was huge, the bed was also very comfortable. Actually, I booked the triple room for a couple but anyway, the room was also big for 3. The entire hotel was very clean and new. Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to use the facilities like the swimming pool or the TV room. Private parking and good breakfast.

Negativ:: Leider die ganze Zeit kein Internet, Pool könnte größer sein.

Positiv:: The property and location itself is beautiful, and has everything one needs for a comfortable stay.

Negativ:: We love the Portuguese people, but not so much the folks who own/run this property. The fact that not one word of English is spoken nor understood didn’t bother us, we quite like a little bit of a linguistic adventure, but the lady receiving us (I think the owner) couldn’t have been more unfriendly, unhelpful and unaccommodating. Besides some ignored requests, to not turn around to even just smile or greet guests when one enters the lodge is simply rude, and she made it quite obvious that checking out (at 10h30) during her breakfast was quite an annoyance (I would have preferred to have waited for her to finish the mouthful of bread before being dealt with). Not a good bye or Obrigade, but by that stage we didn’t really care anymore. The hotel is beautifully appointed but really should not be using single use plastic cups, wrapped in more plastic in the rooms for the storage of toothbrushes, nor should butter be served in those small disposable butter containers often used by take outs and large hotel chains. Every jam, honey and fruit dish covered in yet even more plastic, even inside where there was not a fly insight. The fact that the families dogs are locked in tiny cages behind the swimming pool, desperate for our attention, coupled with family photographs of bullfighting did not endear this establishments’ ownership to us, and we certainly won’t be back.

Positiv:: Gute Lage für die Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Umgebung

Negativ:: Wenn es kalt und regnerisch wie bei unserem Aufenthalt ist, dann ist es im gesamten Haus kalt (ausgenommen die Zimmer)

Positiv:: Casa Saramago is a converted farm building that is done in a simple rustic Portuguese style. Extremely homely. The pool was lovely to relax at and nice and quiet. A brilliant place to relax and unwind.

Positiv:: Frühstück war gut und ausreichend. Man hat einen schönen Blick vom Ortseingang von Telheido (Ortsteil von Monsaraz), wo das Anwesen liegt, hinauf nach Monsaraz (weiße Stadt mit Festung aufeinem Bergrücken). Auch ein Swimmingpool ist gleich am Parkplatz. In Tolheido gibt es auch noch ein Hotel und eine größere urige Gaststätte mit regionaler Speisekarte. Nach Ruengos de Monsaraz, wo erweiterte Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und ein sehr schönes Freibad mit Palmen, Liegewiesen und Gastronomie (Bistro) sowie eine Reihe fotogener Gebäude (insbesondere im Stadtzentrum) einen Besuch wert sind, sind es mit Auto keine 20 Minuten. Unterwegs gibt es schöne Töpferwaren zu sehen und zu kaufen. Auch der Wein aus der Gegend sollte 'mal wenigstens probiert werden.

Negativ:: Enttäuscht war ich, dass ich am Abreisetag zwischen 08.30 Uhr und 09.15 Uhr vergeblich darauf gewartet habe, dass ich Frühstück bekomme, obwohl es gebucht und auch bezahlt war, weil in der Küche niemand da war. Da ich nach Lissabon zum Flug musste konnte ich nicht noch länger warten. Obwohl Telheido zu Monsaraz zu gehören scheint, konnte ich Telheido nur unter Telheido, nicht aber unter Monsaraz im Navigationssystem für das Auto finden. Die Buchung lief aber unter Monsaraz! Hier sollte im Internet bei der Buchung wenigstens angegeben werden, wie der Stadtteil heißt, um die Adresse der Unterkunft ohne "Umwege" finden zu können.

Positiv:: Fresh baked bread at breakfast was excellent. Pool area was great. Interior decor was fascinating.

Negativ:: Room was rather dark with just one tiny window.

Positiv:: This hotel served our needs almost perfectly. We wanted an overnight stay on our way to the Algarve, with a pool. The hotel is charming and relaxed, with a fabulous view, a nice breakfast, easy parking, and a very short walk to restaurants in the village of Telheiro. We had considered staying in Monsaraz itself, but this option was much better. For a start, Monsaraz is murder for parking, and we had a fabulous view of Monsaraz from below anyway. It's a 2m drive, so one is right next door practically.

Negativ:: I can't say there was anything we didn't like. The pool was occupied by noisy children most of the time, but that's not the hotel's fault.

Positiv:: Ivone was one of the most helpful and considerate hosts I’ve ever met! She and the other staff don’t speak English, but they always made me feel like I was in good hands. The property was great as well, beautifully managed inside and out. I also appreciated the room being warm when I arrived, and the wonderful hot shower. I’d love to visit again!

Negativ:: The water heater seemed to be having trouble my first night, but they had it fixed shortly :)

Positiv:: We had a large room in the beautiful charming casa. It was uniquely decorated with antiques and incorporated stone shelving in the room with beautiful stone floors. The little village is wonderful to walk around and you have amazing views of Monsaraz. The pool was great after a long hot day of exploring the area. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful with fruits, meats, cheese, yogurt, cereals and wonderful fresh warm loafs of bread. Plenty of parking and the wifi was fairly good. Not super fast but good basic wifi. Our room did have AC. We would recommend staying here. What little we didn't like was totally overshadowed by how much we enjoyed our stay.

Negativ:: It seems the norm in Spain and Portugal but the bed was very firm and we did have a lot of sewer gas odor in the bathroom as can be typical in some older buildings.

Positiv:: Excellent service! The staff is incredibly nice and made sure our stay was amazing. The rooms are simple, but well equipped and clean, the one we stayed at had a nice cozy balcony with a clear view of the plain. The breakfast was high quality with a lot of homemade delicacies, such as tomato jam and cakes. The almond tart was divine!

Positiv:: Supernette Eigentümerin, die auch englisch spricht. Prima Frühstück mit sehr gutem Kaffee! Alles ordentlich. Der Ausblick vom Balkon ist vor allem nachts toll - man sieht viel vom Sternenhimmel, da es durch die Randlage rundum relativ dunkel ist. Restaurant direkt nebenan. Fairer Preis in der Vorsaison. Würde wieder dort übernachten.

Positiv:: The staff is kind and helpful and the room super clean as the guesthouse itself. Comfy beds and and excellent breakfast served in a cozy room near the garden. It was a shame to stay there just for one night!! Super recommended!!

Positiv:: Everything about this place is perfect. Tania was super helpful and nice and the breakfast was great as well. Would definitely stay again and recommend this place to anyone.

Positiv:: A nice hotel just outside of town. We only stayed one night and it was comfortable. Private parking. Nice building with terraces on 1st floor.

Negativ:: Depending on your neighbours it might be noisy.

Positiv:: Everything! The food was fantastic! The view was fantastic! The Host was so graceful and sweet.

Positiv:: Great location in the hills with lovely views. Friendly staff. Lovely breakfast outside on the terrace. In the centre of the historical town. Comfortable bed.

Negativ:: Nothing really. Credit card not taken but I think this was just a temporary problem. Bathroom was not in the room but was in the corridor opposite (but this is not a complaint as we knew when we booked that the bathroom was external and it was only for our use so not a problem to us). Not many bars or restaurants open in the town.

Positiv:: The breakfast was great. Very friendly staff. Place is of great value. Exceeded our group of 7 expectations.

Negativ:: We have nothing to fault this guesthouse.Maybe if you are traveling with a lot of luggage the room could be cramped.

Positiv:: The room was across the inner courtyard and faced the open valley. It receives quite bit of sun so the A/C was important. TV and WiFi worked well. Check-in went smoothly.

Negativ:: The site attracts quite a few people who park (and double park) on the winding road up to the Rua Direita until the late afternoon. The "free parking" may be some distance from the Casa.

Positiv:: Views, beautiful courtyard and terrace. Location was perfect and our rooms cute and rustic. Staff very friendly.

Negativ:: A small fridge would have been great but they kindly stored a few beers for us which was handy as the cafes seem to close in aftermoon till 7pm. We enjoyed the shady courtyard for our own happy hour.

Negativ:: Superkleines Dreibettzimmer, schon für das Gepäck war kaum Platz. Alte Betten und Matratzen - einmal umdrehen und alle sind wach. Defekte Klimaanlage und niemand da, der einem helfen kõnnte, daher heiss und stickig im Zimmer. Keine Bar.

Positiv:: The location was great, room had lovely view of sunset and Portugal, the bed was very comfortable and the room was quite quirky in its decoration which we liked. Great restaurants all around and terrific view and seating area from roof top terrace. We really liked Monsaraz, beautiful place with amazing views. Free parking.

Negativ:: Couldn't get the shower control to give any hot water. Would have been nice to have some glasses in room to drink from and didn't find a hair dryer.

Positiv:: Raul, welcomed us in a very friendly manner and set the tone for a perfect stay. We loved our little room with a stunning view and the overall atmosphere of the place. The charming rooftop is a great place to bring some wine and cheese to and enjoy a beautiful sunset. It is one of the most romantic places we have ever stayed in. We would definitely recommend it to friends and hope to come back for another visit.

Negativ:: The bathroom was dirty and very dusty. The Bath Towels were damp. The floor under the bed and in the corners were very dusty.

Positiv:: Die Unterkunft entsprach der Beschreibung und man fühlte sich zeitversetzt in dem mit viel Liebe eingerichtetem Hotel in dem mittelalterlichem Städtchen. Das Frühstück war sehr gut.

Negativ:: Das Licht im Badezimmer war sehr schwach.

Positiv:: The location of Casa Pinto is perfect. Monsaraz is a very old and small town on a hill that looks over the whole region. The room we had had a gorgeous view over the region from the bedroom window! There was also a roof terrace with the same gorgeous view and a relaxed spot to have a drink. The room was decorated in an Asian/Middle Eastern style and waking up was really like a fairytale!

Positiv:: Beautiful, eclectic, comfortable, amazing views, yummy breakfast, fun host (Raoul), and other interesting guests - a great stay in a very special place.

Positiv:: The View was superb and the staff was very friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and tidy and it was all very peaceful and quiet, just what we were looking for!

Positiv:: This was one of the finest experiences I had in Portugal! The place is just stunning and everything is just right. The staff.. wow.. they were always making sure we were happy, and even let us use the pool and the facilities after our check-out. The place is amazing, the staff is unbelievably amazing and kind. If you want to get blown away this is the place!! Everything was super clean, the breakfast was really good and you always have free coffee (you even have a coffee machine in your bed). Also they were fully booked but because they don't have a lot of rooms, it's always quite and peaceful.

Positiv:: The building is very beautiful. The room was good and clean. The breakfast very good. The staff very nice.

Negativ:: It looks that there are many things to be repaired specially the garden, the furniture existing at the garden and for this reason I feel that the price is excessive.

Positiv:: The estalagem benefits from the amazing location that is Monsaraz. It is easy to find although parking can be difficult in high season.

Negativ:: We have stayed in Monsaraz many times, both in the estalagem and other houses inside the walls. Monsaraz is a charming location always relaxing amid fabulous surrounding scenery deep in the Alentejo. In past years this relaxed quirkiness was also reflected in the estalagem. A warm, friendly welcome with staff relaxed and happy to help whatever. However, it now apparently has new management. Staff are now required to wear uniform and do not appear to smile much and, at reception, spend a lot of time on the mobile. We arrived and were warmly welcomed by a young lady, as in past years, not in uniform who appeared to be working back of house. We were shown to our room which, like most accommodation in Monsaraz is fairly basic but for the prices very good value. There was a shower which did not work and I complained to reception where the uniformed receptionist seemed almost in tears and appeared to agree that things were not good under the new management. The building is fully wired, but it seems that each bedroom has its own network address and the staff did not seem to be able to cope with giving the required network code. We were told that breakfast would be served at 8am. We had a long journey ahead to the Algarve so arrived at 7.55 only to find there was no sign of any preparation of breakfast. We left on our journey without breakfast. It is sad, because in past years when we have stayed at the estalagem, we could not really fault it.

Positiv:: Very friendly staff, optimal location, excelent conditions. Would return for sure.
