Alamo employee refused to rent a car to me since internationa driving license isn't entirely translated in English. I need to remind intelligent species out there that English isn't the only language on the planet and that, in addition to English, EU issued international drivers license is translated entirely to German, French and Italian. Even after he, and I quote: "AKSED his supervisor about it" I still didn't get a car. If you're an international traveler- avoid Alamo.

I did not have the documents with me because I was traveling. Even if I was willing to leave a very large deposit, I could not rent the car. Terrible service all around!
They refused to accept international driving licenPositiv: Nothing Negativ: There was a rush that day in atlanta and the company seems to have come up with a instant stretchy to refuse cars to people with international driving license. I had to visit the International Airport where the same company agreed to accept my license but demanded $200 per day for the same car. I paid for Uber, wasted my time and finally had to cancel my meeting. This is simply rediculous.
People with a US license were asked for 2 separate ID's something again naive and obstructive.

Kayak booked me to the wrong Alamo and they gaugedNegativ: I accidentally booked the downtown Alamo instead of the ATL airport. The airport staff used it as a chance to gauge me for 4x what I booked it at. Felt very taken advantage of.

The car was rented on a Friday at 7:45 am and they didn’t open until 8 am on Sunday. Horrible smell in carPositiv: Quick and easy pick up. I was a little concerned about the numerous scratches and dings on the car when I picked it up, but no one gave me trouble when I returned it. Negativ: Clearly someone smoked in the car, and rather than having it cleaned, copious quantities of air freshener were dumped in. I had to keep windows down at all times or my eyes started burning. At the end of a 4 hour road trip I had to take a shower immediately, because my family smelled the car on me when I walked in. Really disappointing.

Would not honor Kayak price Positiv: Still got a good deal Negativ: When we arrived, a little late, they said they could no longer honor the Kayak price and charged us $5 more per day for basically the same car. I pulled up the website and showed them I could get an even better price but didn't feel like arguing over $5 since we were only renting for one day. Other than that we got a car with bad wiper blades in the rain. Overall an average experience but what do you expect for the price I guess.

Further more, Avis customer care, had no concern or desire to better the situation, that wouldnt have cost me more money.
Mechanical issuesNegativ: Car had brake issues. Took roadside assistance 5 hours to switch out car. When I returned the car, they said the returned car by the towing company had damage, which was not caused by me. I commodore to several people in roadside assistance and to avis, but did not get compensated for anything. I am not pleased.

Walked in to rent the car, which I was informed there were NONE LEFT. The car that I had made the RESERVATION for was given away. I was offered a different car that was "5 tiers higher", but was going to get "the best discount available". So NONE of the information I was emailed three weeks before was even accurate.
When it came time to actually pay, I gave my debit card, (which I have used to rent cars before) I was informed I could ONLY use a major credit card. Once again, none of this was mentioned in my confirmation email. Needless to say, nothing could be done, and I missed my Thanksgiving. Thank you Avis .

Dollar Rent a Car is the WORST!!!Negativ: First of all I returned the car an entire day early and they not only wouldn't refund any of that money but they charged me an ADDITIONAL $25. to return the car early! HOW RIDICULOUS!
Then when I went to return it, no one is around, no one! then i hear screaming from a booth where the employee was too lazy to get up from her seat and come outside, so i roll down the window and she is screaming at me, "go ova there!" "where" I reply?? so she motions which I cannot make out what she means and so I just pulled the car behind some other cars. Completely poo customer service and attitude. When making the reservation I put in Atlanta airport so I do not know how the reservation could've been in another town miles away. I had to pay more than double the amount for the rental.
Not at the airportPositiv: Should have read the fine print. Although I searched for airport rentals I ended up with Enterprise off site. Thankfully, onsite Enterprise saw I was traveling alone with 3 kids under 6 and gave me a car onsite (and a discount for Kayak's misleading).
Atlanta Airport RentalPositiv: The employees were very friendly and helpful. I was traveling with my 88 yr old mother and the employee who checked us in on return drove us to the terminal. Negativ: I accidentally checked another Atlanta location for return and it cost almost $250 more to return to the Atlanta airport, the point of origin. That seems excessive. Enterprise had no record of my rental under my name and had to locate via the Kayak confirmation number.

A mixed bag...Positiv: Nice vehicle, free upgrade (Nissan Rogue). Dropoff was easy and flawless. Negativ: The pickup process was badly flawed and it took us over 2 hours to pick up the vehicle, including having to go to another location to do so. Dropoff was flawless. Also, the vehicle had a defective entertainment system and would reboot after listening to FM or XM for a few minutes, erasing all the presets when it did so. So, we drove in silence...
TerribleNegativ: I will never use Hertz again. I made my original reservation to pick up the car at the Atlanta airport and was on a very tight schedule and when I arrived at the counter, the associate said I had to pick up the car at the Buckhead location. I asked how did she expect me to get to that location, said instructed me to go back to the airport and take a car or uber. I was not pleased. It cost me $50 to take a cab to the Buckhead Hertz location. The associate at the Buckhead Hertz center said it was not my booking mistake but rather the airport location kicked the reservation over to them because it was cheaper and was definitely not my mistake. I will never trust Hertz again.

Non smoking car reeks of cigarette smoke Positiv: Externally the car appeared in good repair. It had been freshly washed. Negativ: Insides reeked of cigarette smoke. The driver’s seat had a stain that hadnt been cleaned. For the money charged, the car didn’t have electronic key fob. Most controls were manual.
The rental agreement didn’t come worth the return address so we could program that into a GPS. Finding the rental Car return in Atlanta Airport was an ordeal.
No car available Negativ: When I arrived there was no car available. I was told it would be about 45 minutes. I checked with two other rental companies who either had no car available or was triple the price so I decided to wait. After 45 minutes, I was told It would be another 20 minutes but cars were definitely due back. After 25 minutes still nothing available. I checked another company and a car was available so I took it. An hour later I received a call that my Payless car was available.
Do not suggestNegativ: Had to cancel reservation - was told at counter they would need a hard copy of my home utility bill upon check in. This was not made apparent to me beforehand. Was willing to work with them and showed a copy of a bill on my cell phone - was told that this was not acceptable.

It was for $44.40. When I went in person they wanted to charge me a $150 transfer fee, plus a $200 deposit for using a debit. I know it's a policy, but the woman who attended me told me it's a charge not a deposit, so I ran the risk of not getting that money back. I called corporate Payless and they didn't help the situation at all. Why didn't they include it initially in the estimate we wouldn't have planned to go back in a rental in the first place. In the end we took an Uber back home and it ended being way cheaper than a rental. We might just do that from now on instead of hassling with rental companies like Payless.
