A tale of two locationsPositiv: So I mistakenly thought I booked the car for the Avis location close to the airport. Took the Avis shuttle from airport to their facility, and when the agreement screen popped up, the price showed as being close to $600!! I showed the clerk my reservation, with the price I agreed to as being $136, and the clerk said “Oh, I see the problem. Your booking is with the downtown Avis location, not the airport location.” So I used a rideshare app to go the 20 minutes to the proper facility, and got the price I was promised. But - are you freaking KIDDING ME? It costs 4 times as much for the same car, with the same company, if you rent it from the airport location instead? price gouging, anyone??? On the plus side, once I was at the proper location, the transaction was very smooth and the clerk very helpful

The cost. I booked the car as a vacation package deal and was not expecting the over 400 charge - I was under the impression the car was a "deal" this did not happen. I will not use a Package deal again.
Horrible customer service Positiv: The advertised price Negativ: I was renting through my company and needed the underage fee to be waived. I called customer service before I arrived at the Budget office to apply my company code, they couldn't assist me and referred me to the nearest office. The rep at the office said an underage charge wouldn't be added, went ahead and swiped my card then realized I was being charged double the price. So I decided not to proceed with the rental, but was still charged an absurd qmount of money.

Positiv: The car itself was fine, and the attendants at the rental facility were very nice. Talking to representatives on Budget's national call center line to try to make modifications to the rental was a nightmare though. Negativ: The rental facility was in the middle of nowhere. The facility had a toilet and sink but no toilet paper or hand paper towels. Talk about budget.

Positiv: The clerk at the rental office accommodated my needs by allowing me to return the car at the airport rather than the Hartford office. The airport location was more convenient to me because my own car was parked nearby the airport. He was very friendly and helpful. The staff at the airport rental office were also helpful and accommodating and even informed me that I could ask for a shuttle pickup to return to my own car. The Hartford offices were cleaner than the one in Queens.
Positiv: Nice car. Good location. Negativ: No receipt emailed. Receipt hard to process online. Charged me $20 to fill a 7/8 tank when they had agreed they gave it to me at 7/8.

Gouging on gas Negativ: Missed finding a gas station as I made my way to Logan airport -- used half a tank of gas -- nailed me for over $65 for gas. Won't make that mistake again and won't use Dollar either.
Cancelled my trip because of dollarNegativ: I got alliance insurance and when I went to dollar to pick up the car, they didn’t honor the insurance and imposed a very high insurance on me. That was like thrice the estimated amount of the whole trip for which I booked the car. I had to cancel the trip I had planned. Such a poor service. Will never recommend the same for rental.

Worst service, worst car. Positiv: The one, of six encountered, staff members who was actually friendly. Unfortunately, he was not a part of my rental process or interaction. Negativ: 25 minute wait for pick up (other companies' shuttles went by 2-3 times while we all waited). When he arrived, the driver was sarcastic and rude. Farthest from the airport, ghetto location and appearance. Line was 14 people deep with 1, unfriendly, person working the desk. Was told to bring in my receipt for full up within 10 miles-never been told that before. Got my cigarette drenched car, tried to notify them, was told to wait behind the 14 people still waiting-I just left. On return, was told "give me your keys" as my greeting, with no other direction, by an individual who said no more to me (are you taking care of me, do I wait here, do you want my paperwork, am I all set, do you ever smile, are you the rudest person ever?). Two shuttle drivers also making jokes about riders, being rude and sarcastic ("you should've gotten breakfast before you got here" "we will get you there eventually"). The price was cheap BUT equal to other companies listed on Kayak-I picked wrong, way wrong.
Do not rent from Dollar Negativ: Office was closed when my flight arrived, I was stranded at the airport with two small children.
Be sure you get the right shop for airport pickupPositiv: Jake from the Airport Rd. office called to make sure I wanted his (Brainard Airport) office in Hartford, and not them more likely Bradley Airport in Windsor Locks, serving the Hartford area. Thay was going above and beyond and saved me a LOT of trouble. The Bradley shop honored the rate (with higher taxes) and were friendly and professional.
I have been scammed by the Alamo/National tactics and highly recommend Enterprise over those two chains. Negativ: Only that the website didn't make the location abundantly clear. The system should know that "Hartford" might mean Bradley and alert the buyer. That may be Kayak's problem, not sure.

Another example of service that makes me come back!Positiv: When I brought back the car I mentioned that it smelled of smoke, That was something I had not noticed when I picked the car up but as the week went on the smell got stronger. The young man helping me asked how he could help and I told him I would appreciate not having to pay the $50 fee for dropping the car off at a different location. He asked me to come to the office and the manager there gave me a $25 credit, she could not waive the entire $50 fee but she and her staff's response was so positive and so quick I was fine with the $25.
Pick up Positiv: Picking up after booking at Bradley Hartford airport was a bit of a hassle. When you book the car you book in Hartford but the enterprise courtesy van takes you to an enterprise in Windsor Locks. Their taxes are higher and they try to charge me $100 more. To pick up enterprise in Hartford was 15 minutes away and their courtesy van would not take me. However they told me I could call Uber. After a bit of talking back-and-forth he finally agreed to honor the price that I got.
Pleased with Enterprise van rentalPositiv: friendly and helpful staff, very capable and answered my questions. Very positive experience for us. We got a fairly new van, very clean and enjoyed driving it (although the stereo system was a bit tricky to figure out - not Enterprise's fault but perhaps could have given a tutorial). Negativ: They had a bathroom but it had a sign "Employees Only" which is not a customer-friendly warning (they let us use it but they should expect customers coming from long trips to need facilities). Also, someone - Enterprise, KAYAK - should have given us the heads up about needing insurance documentation; our rental process took longer than it had to as we had to call the insurer and go through an authentification process to complete the rental.

Positiv: The car was ready when we arrived at 5am in the morning!Negativ: Too bad the agent didn't explain to us at pick up that we could drop off at another location prior to the 5am opening of the main center. We just happened to find the second location at 4am when I saw the shuttle. This would have saved me worrying about the tight schedule we had for the morning. As it turns out, the staff at the second location was super accommodating and got us to the airport in record time.

Not enough shuttles Positiv: The price. Although the car we actuality rented was a few dollars cheaper when wet booked last minute. We were also able to cancel easily. Negativ: We stood outside waiting for the Thrifty shuttle while every other rental car company had at least two of their own shuttles come through. I booked a car through budget while standing there after seeing 3 budget shuttles pass and then we got on the next budget shuttle and there was still no Thrifty shuttle!
Positiv: Nothing, honestly. Negativ: I made a reservation and when I got there, they didn't have my reservation on file let alone the car I needed. The lady at the front desk was rude, didn't even smile. Didn't let us finish our sentences. Horrible customer service.

Downgraded, lacked power, and huge air freshener oPositiv: Was disappointed when arrived and informed kia soul was only vehicles available despite reserving a full size vehicle. Rate was discounted to compensate - fair enough. The soul rides rough and could not hold speed on a modest grade without down shifting and running at 4500 room. Rather annoying. The car had an extremely strong air freshener smell to it. Not good for allergies. Other than the lack of power the car ran well and was economical.
