Didn’t get the car I was expecting so had to upgrade half way through rental.
Negativ: After we told them no insurance they put it on the paper work then when we pointed it out he had to start the paperwork over again. Originally issued a car with no gas and smelled like cigarettes badly. Had to unpack our backs and go all the way back to the rental center. No apology. Just a silent reissue of keys.
Drop off was chaotic. No return recipet was issued.
Watch Your Bank/Credit StatementPositiv: The car was clean.Negativ: You will get charged unexplained fees that will double the quoted Kayak rate, including a "fuel service fee" that no one will disclose to you until it shows up on your receipt and credit card statement. I will not be renting with Avis again.

Positiv: It was a good car for the category I have selected. Negativ: The car had some noise in the wheels during the whole renting days, which I could not identify. I believe that if the car has gone through some check before being delivered, this slight problem could be fixed.
Another great experience at Avis-OR TamboPositiv: Prompt, efficient pick-up and drop-off, kind service, well-maintained, clean vehicle. Negativ: It was hard to find the fuel station at OR Tambo Airport to refuel, and since I was running against the clock, I couldn't. But the Avis staff assured me that they'd handle it.

When we rented the car, the ladies at the counter took time to explain where we were not insured (we only got PAI and CAD), which we appreciated, since we would probably spend more if we didn't have the extra insurance they promoted at the counter.Negativ: We weren't too happy with the car selection. We reserved a Hyundai Accent (or similar), and the car we ended up with had really slow acceleration (VW Vito), which I don't think is at part with the Accent's.
When we returned the car, the guys who received it said we would get our invoice within 5 working days, despite us insisting for our invoice. We had to wait for it from the man at the counter.

Efficient Car RentalPositiv: The staff were friendly and efficient. Total no-hassle car rental. I'd rent from them again in a heartbeat.Negativ: Nothing against Avis, but the Chevy Spark compact option is tiny and drives like it is being powered by three stressed-out sprinting hamsters. Overall though, a very good experience. Just size up on the car if you want any power on the highways.
Positiv: Avis was really great - i needed to upgrade and they allowed me to do so without a problem. I'm very happy with the service.
Great car. A bit dicey on front and back ends. Positiv: Great car!!! Negativ: We had a trainee helping us at pick up and the other service agents did not help her as much as she needed. It made our pick up time extremely long.
Finding the drop off location at OR Tambo is a nightmare. Everyone who arrives there on time deserves a credit on their account.
Good experience Positiv: Nothing different than renting in the U.S., and no sales pressures to upgrade or buy their own insurance.

Disappointed at Europcar - not international standNegativ: Did not like the car - had problems. Also no consideration taken that I drove it back to the airport late at night to minimise the issue and still got charged petrol. I should not have done that and let Europcar deliver a replacement car to me. Also disappointed that Europcar does not have no insurance option for zero excess! That provides piece of mind to the driver to have it as an option. OR Tambo pick up drop off.

So we had to leave hertz and go to another rental company. We were 30 mins late to something that was very important. We were very unsatified with our service. Hertz made us late to something we needed to be on time too.

Great Service; Misleading PricePositiv: Everything about the experience was very easy and professional. The attendant was knowledgeable and articulate. The vehicle was easily accessed and the return procedure was smooth and efficient. Negativ: I realize the car rental business does not face the stringent fee transparency rules of airlines, but the difference in booked versus actual rate is ridiculous. We paid over THREE times the rate we had agreed to upon reservation.

Negativ: I was not giving the online price I booked. I was told they would not honor it and charged me 3x the price. Required me purchase insurance that the online booking said was included in the price and charged me an extra day no I'm having trouble getting the money for that extra day back....smdh
HorribleNegativ: We purchased the offered insurance online. When we went in, the hertz company wanted charge us their insurance which raised the price of the rental 3x the original cost of the booking. If we declined their insurance, they would put a hold on our credit worth the value of the car. Of course our credit card could not cover the amount of an entire car! We had to cancel the booking, but since you have to pre-pay for the offered insurance, we lost that amount. It was the one of the most disappointing events I've ever had while traveling.
Hidden costs Positiv: The car was clean and new.Negativ: I didn't like that the cost for renting did not include all the fees. It didn't have the extra fees for it being at a airport location along with other fees. I wanted this rental since it was online for $17 per day but when I got to the counter it came up to $25 a day. The clerk at the front desk gave a crapy reason saying that since I got it from kayak a third party site that's why the extra costs wasn't on that site. Lucky I only needed the car for one day but if I needed it for an extended length of time I would not have been happy.
I was left stranded.Negativ: there was no car. Even though i had confirmations Hertz said I had no reservation.

EXCELLENT SERVICEPositiv: We will certainly use Woodford for our future car rentals. The price was competitive and the service was excellent.
