Basic TransportationPositiv: We liked the upgrade to the Toyota Voxy minivan due to its spaciousness to accommodate my whole group... That may have been sheer luck because they did not have what we contracted for...

One hub cap missing; Many dings and scratches, Check engine light on the whole time; Tires looking well worn; High mileage (73,000 miles).
Fortunately, there were no breakdowns and we got everywhere without incident.

What consideration?Positiv: Was upgraded from intermediate class to luxury/full-sized with no price increaseNegativ: Alamo staff on 2 occasions told me to ignore the low pressure warning for R front tire as the sensor was malfunctioning. Guess what? You're right: the R front tire was flat on day 3. The sensor did work. Called for assistance: no answer. Called the office: no answer. My fiend and I then changed the tire, using the spare donut-tire which was low also. Made it to a service station and properly inflated the spare. Needed directions to the main office as they had no sign on the road. Agent at office said no phone service as electricity was out. Ever hear of cell phones? Everyone in The T&C has one.
Turned car in at airport at end of vacation and asked for consideration for 1 day's rental fee. The answer from the agent was " No". I then stated that I might dispute the rental fee when it appeared on my credit card statement. I was then told by the agent, after a phone call to her manager, that if I disputed the billing thru my credit card company, my name would be passed to all rental car agencies on Provadenciales and I would never be able to rent any car in the future on the Island. Now, that's a threat if I ever heard one. What customer service ?

Car not available upon my arrivalPositiv: NothingNegativ: After waiting in line for 40 minutes, I was told that my car was not available. I asked for it to be ready by 1 pm. It was well after that time. When I asked how long it would take to have the car ready for me, I was told they could not give me an answer, since the previous renter had returned it late. I asked it the renter would be getting a late fee and was told yes. I then asked if that fee would be passed along to me for all my trouble and was told no. I was then advised that I could rent a car quicker by going to another rental company! This is what I decided to do. So I will never rent a car from Alamo again
Worst rental car experience in my lifetime Positiv: The car was clean on the inside. Negativ: The clerk at the pick-up desk was rude and unwelcoming. It appeared that we were inconveniencing her. The check-in process was longer than usual and when complete, we had to wait another 20 min for the car to arrive at curbside.
The car we were given was an old, uncomfortable vehicle with 116,000 km on it.
The drop off process was equally disappointing. I did exactly what I was instructed to do and yet the staff treated me like I was doing everything wrong. The same unfriendly clerk who checked us in was there to check us out. She was even more rude during the check out process.
We often choose Alamo for our car rentals. Probably never again.

Tiny car but got job donePositiv: Tough little vehicle. Lady at counter was very nice and helpful for places to eat. The rental place is off site and need to take a van to get there so I went while rest got luggage to save time. But only 1 minute ride up road.Negativ: Tiny, tiny, tiny car and I rented the economy which is the same as compact there. But, ac was cold and it got us from A to B. I asked about a larger vehicle and to put me in the economy which was not much bigger was double the price.

Positiv: The people at check in and drop off were very nice and professional, car was in good shapeNegativ: For some reason I had two reservations; and, while having two reservations, they didnt have a car waiting for me. It wasnt the worst, didnt take a ton of time, but it was really jarring to have a mix up / issue immediately after a flight and going through customs. It appeared there was a miscommunication between kayak and Avis which was annoying as heck.

Worst ever!Positiv: Nothing!Negativ: They gave me an entirely damaged car, which should not even be in their inventory. I had to return it with full tank, which caused me the cancellation of 2 meetings. When I came to return the second car they charged me a late fee. They did not consider the fact that I lost more than 3 hours the previous day trying to return the first car. CHEAP CARS HAVE NO LIGHTER OUTLET THEREFORE PHONES CAN'T BE CHARGED ON THE GO. SECOND CAR WAS ALSO DIRTY.
Negativ: The reservation was not honored at Avis counter. I was told that it was not made for a car but was made for a two wheeler scooter! When complained to Kayak, I was advised to contact Avis.
Confusion and rate adjustment at pickupNegativ: We searched Kayak for car rentals at the Providenciales Airport and booked an Avis car. When we got to the counter, we were told that the rental was for another location, even though we specified the airport. Another Avis customer who was there had the exact same experience. We were still able to rent a car at the airport, but the price was about $45 more because of higher airport fees.

Obviously we did not reserve a scooter for 2 people and 4 pieces of luggage. We didn't appreciate the Avis reps' attitude that WE reserved the wrong thing when it was obvious it was a Kayak glitch. Even when a man next to us in line said he had the exact same issue reserving thru Kayak, the rep acted like we had made an error and gave us a bit of an attitude. Not a good start to the vacation

They said that Kayak system reserved a Scooter not a car, which is total Bull, as the scooter rate was $11 a day.
They refused to honor my reservation and I had to pay $350 for a smaller car than the one I had reserved at $288.
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY.
Negativ: Kayak mkes reservations at the wrong location (not at the airport of provinciales) although it says so on the documentation.
Avis then has to change manually and might not have scar available. If they do it is more expensive.

Bait and switchNegativ: Had reservation for SUV clearly printed on my booking. Avis claimed I had booked a scooter and wouldn't acknowledge my booking receipt for the SUV for 5 passengers with 5 bags. Ended up being forced into a small economy car that was scratched up beyond belief and paid $100 more than the SUV I booked.
Price problemPositiv: Car was clean, comfortable and in good shape. Staff was efficient. Pick up and drop off went smoothly.Negativ: Price problem. Quoted price from search engine was not honored. Had to fork over an additional $100 dollars for the car I thought I had reserved. Avis claimed problem is with the search engine. Still trying to get to the bottom of this problem.

Car was falling apart. Positiv: Pick up and drop off were quick and easy. The locations is only 2 minutes from the airport so it was very convenient. Negativ: The car was in awful condition. I realize caribean car rentals are usually a bit worse off than elsewhere, but in this case, the windshield wipers didn't work properly, the windows would get stuck down and could be rolled up until restarting the car multiple times and the interior plastic trim was falling off the seats and cutting passengers' legs.
Small car, but worked for our trip.Positiv: Economical, air-conditioned. Negativ: Thought I was getting a bigger car. Paid for a "special" Ended up be the smallest car available. One tire had a slow leak. Flat tire, but luckily has access to a bike pump and was able to fill it. Small car-very small tires!

Tiny little Suzuki that gets dented or scratched if you look at it too hard. The Island roads are rough and these cars have no business being on them!

Ended up having to pay $77 for Dollar's insurance or we had to go back to the airport and find a company that did accept American Express. Saddened that Kayak would have allowed this to happen........A Very disappointing and a bad start to our vacation.

Terrible Customer ServiceNegativ: I'm a big Enterprise user--it's usually my go-to when it comes to car rentals. So I was definitely surprised to experience such sub par customer service at Turks and Caicos. And in fact, it was more than just deplorable, it was rude and punitive. When we arrived on the island, we managed to get through customs fairly quickly and found ourselves at the Enterprise counter, pumped and ready to get our holidays started in Turks and Caicos started. But we ended up struggling to find anybody at the counter for 15 minutes with other customers starting to pile behind us. It didn't really bother us much at first because we more or less were just excited to be on the island and figured perhaps we were now on "island time".
We were then met by a young man who started to check us in and after getting the process started he jumps on the phone with his manager on the other line. This happened several times during the check in process--all conversations were inaudible and we didn't think much of it. Eventually he informed us that our current option was that they currently didn't have any Economy cars available but that they would pay for a cab to our house rental and they would bring a car when it was ready which would be about 45 minutes. We agreed, but then he told us that actually they had a car ready if we'd wait for 20 minutes. We said perfect, we'll head over to the bathroom, and after that long line for it, time would pass by.
When we got back, he informed us that the car ws actually being cleaned and it would be just another 10-15 minutes. We were fine with that and gleefully decided to wait outside to the area where he told us the car would come by any time now. 25 minutes pass by. No car. Three hotel guides and a parking attendee ask us if we needed any assistance. We happily said that we were just waiting for our car to come by. Another 5 minutes pass by and I decided to go in and politely ask what the status of the car was, if it would be coming anytime soon. He told me that it was coming, it would be there in just a few minutes. We wait. 10 minutes go by, another hotel guide asked us if we need any help. No car. Finally my boyfriend decides to see what could possibly be the hold up. The young man is no longer there, his shift had ended.
Now the manager who he had spoken to on the phone was now was manning the counter and basically met us with tension, unfriendliness, anger, and no offer of apology. We asked her what the hold up was since it's been an hour wait for us to which she quickly pointed at our contract and replied, "No it hasn't, it's 10:28am". It was currently 11:13am. 10:28am was the time the young man had printed us the slip after he finally finished checking us in--post 20 minute bathroom break upon his assistance so he could log us into the system. Needless to say, it was another 20 minutes before we ever saw the car. The manager never smiled at us, would not answer questions, and was focused on ignoring us.

No cars available Negativ: Enterprise was out of cars, so had to move to another rental car company and negotiate, lots of run around.
Negativ: We rented a mini-van with Hertz in Turks and Caicos. Within two days we had a blow out...the tires were in horrific condition. The steel belts were literally showing through the rubber of the tire with virtually no treads. To think that Hertz would furnish a car with such tires. Although I have changed dozens of tires, this one had a release for the spare that was under the console with a special tool that was required. No owners manual or instructions were included. I called Hertz and they wanted to charge us a service charge to come out to change the flat. It took us over an hour to figure out how the tire (located under the vehicle) could be lowered and extracted from the vehicle. I use Hertz when I travel for business and having a choice, will go with another car rental company...one that cares about the safety of me and my family.
Old and TiredPositiv: There was no crowd - I was the only customer. Staff were friedly but not very fast. Negativ: Location is out of the way and a little inconvenient. Office is not really an office but more of a shed. Although they have a few new cars on the front row facing the street (probably just for show) the actual rental fleet is pretty old and banged up a bit. I thought my muffler was going to fall off every time I drove it.
Smooth experiencePositiv: - Immediate pick up by a shuttle after getting paperwork done at airport

- Pick up and drop off were fast
- Perfect car for the island: mid-size Daihatsu. Low gas mileage (gas is at $4-$5 per liter)
Negativ: - Not very friendly staff
- I had booked a Jeep but got a Daihatsu instead (it worked out for the best in the end)
- Location of lot is in a shady spot.
Value for moneyPositiv: We needed a car into which we could load our kiteboarding gear and take to the beach without worrying about the ever present sand and primitive road conditions. This one fit the bill perfectly.

Positiv: If you plan to spend more time on the water than in the car.... this car was a good deal and just what we needed it for :)

No place to drop off our rental when it was before the office opened ( we even informed them, and it was in the contract that we needed to drop the car early). customer service has yet to respond to inquiries after 3 days of waiting for a receipt as well as responding to any issue that we encountered. They got the money for the rental and seem to not want to respond to the issues.

When I picked up the car, they offered insurance. Wish I had known to purchase it directly, in case there was an accident. Thankfully, no fender benders.
A junker!Positiv: The girl at the airport was very nice but they were all out of the car we reserved so we were upgraded to a larger size car which turned out to be a nightmare!Negativ: The top and hood were covered with peeling paint and there were dents, gouges and scratches all over the entire car! The inside was quite dirty, also. Our first night out to dinner we came out and the battery was dead which cost us a $40 cab ride home! We had to meet them back at the restaurant the next morning and they accused us of leaving the door open since the seatbelt was caught in the door which happened after the fact. There was oil all over the dead battery. However, they jumped the battery and we had to keep the same car. The shock absorbers felt non existent. It was as if it was a car that had been sitting in someone's backyard in the weather for years! They did not make us pay for the mechanic or what happened to the battery which was a relief and the way it should have been but they refused to reimburse us for the taxi.
