Horrible pickup experience Positiv: N/ANegativ: I never even got my car because the wait was so long (over an hour in line) and when I finally got to the desk I was told I needed my physical passport to rent. I had my credit card, drivers license, photo of passport, and multiple other forms of ID. It did not say anywhere on the email I received that I would need to bring my passport. I ended up going with another company

Negativ: They didn't have the car available and all they had to offer was a Prius that was twice as expensive. I reserved a Jeep not a small hybrid and needed the Jeep for travel in the mountains. Not a good experience.
The Ace sign was also not visible so I walked by the agency several times before I found it.

Hard to find ACE (no signage). Insurance costs in Mexico are a killer!Positiv: We received the van we requested for 12 people. The guys @ the car drop-off and pick-up were very nice and helpful. Negativ: We couldn't find ACE @ the airport. No signage. After 20 min of searching and local assistance we found ACE with MEX or FOX. We found a small ACE sign inside the MEX Agency. We waited an eternity to get service, 45 min of waiting. What a waste of time. The insurance was almost the same cost as the rental. A $300 rental was $600, nice.
Price not what I expected. On top of that they did not have the type of car I requested. They wanted to give me something smaller and claimed that the trunk space would be the same which would it clearly not.
Overall the rental was smooth.Positiv: They were friendly, efficient and helpful. Communiation was never an issue.Negativ: We should have taken note of the address to drop the vehicle off. I assumed that the address would be written somewhere on the paperwork and it was a pretty big stress relocating the office after ten days of travel. Mexico City can be pretty stressful to navigate, especially if you have a flight to catch.
Negativ: I received a estimate for 1 dollar a day and a reservation number - When I got there they wouldn't honor the estimate and then charged me an insane amount.

It would be nice to see kayak stepping in in this matter, and not just sayin “we are just and intermediary”.

After that, the seller made an ilegal offer by paying his comission in cash to reduce the total amount of the car rental to 1000 US. Finally, we took the minimal insurance for a final price of 600 US (15 days instead of 1 month)...

Bought road side assistance that never worked and no knew how it worked when we called to use it. They gave us a car that had a front tire that had previously been flat and repaired so naturally we got a flat tire, luckily we were driving slow otherwise I would not be wrtiting this review.

WORST car rental experience everPositiv: The car itself worked fine.Negativ: The entire customer service experience was a complete disaster:
- Upon arrival at the airport, we waited for 45 minutes for the shuttle to the Budget rental location and it was unclear how much longer it would take, so we ended up taking a taxi to Budget rental location.
- Called ahead to reserve a car seat rental, then arrived and were told there were no car seats. Customer service rep spent the time excusing himself from guilt instead of trying to resolve the situation somehow.
- When returning the car, they could not find the credit card deposit hold transaction paperwork. After waiting for 30 minutes, we decided to leave (to avoid missing our flight) and instead I have to cancel the entire transaction on my credit card to avoid being charged $500 deposit.
Budget Car Rental overall great experiencePositiv: The price was great and the service was very goodNegativ: We had a major problem in that they did not have our reservation. Apparently there is a lag time of 24hrs. between Kayak and Budget receiving the reservation. We made the reservation approximately 12 hrs before we were to get the car, when we arrived, they said they did not have our reservation and that it happened with all 3rd parties like kayak, orbitz, expedia, etc. So we had to wait until the next day to get the car which caused some inconvenience because we had to spend on taxis. The next day the reservation came in and everything was fine after that.
Budget is a scamNegativ: They make you buy their insurance even if you have other insurance. If you don't take their insurance you can't rent the car. The price for the car$1/day but the insurance is $250-350 a week. Plus they will put a hold on your credit card for $2500. Stay away from this place. It is a super shady business with rude employees.

The worst experience ever Negativ: I arrived at the airport and the dollar representative was super nice to begin with but when I declined their insurance, because I have my own insurance and car rental insurance with one of my credit cards, he said that I was obligated to purchase their insurance regardless. Their insurance was going to be twice more of what the rental car was going to be!!!!! The rental for my stay there was going to be roughly $660 and with their "obligatory" insurance was going to be about $2000!!!! The bad thing besides the outrageous amount of money was that after I had to obviously decline the rental and then had to wait a couple of hours to figure out how I was going to get to my destination which was a 2 hour drive....and this was my first time in Mexico so it was definitely an extreme inconvenience not to have been able to rent my car as agreed on Kayak before my trip. No apologies were even offered nor any other alternative.

Held hostage by Car Rental agency Positiv: Holiday travel: After waiting 3 hours for my car I finally got to the Dollar Rental agency and was told I had to buy their additional insurance package that multiplied my rental cost by 3. I told the agent I would only prefer the minimal liability that was included in the original offer because I had my own additional coverage from home. He said that was not an option and I had to buy his package. With precious vacation time running out and limited availability from other rental companies I was in no position to consider any other car. So I paid the ransom and drove away completely frustrated.

I even called the enterprise rental office in Mexico to clarify some questions about my rental, and they were most helpful. We managed to get directions as to how we could use public transportation to our destination. It took us all day utilizing 3 buses and paying for two cabs to reach our destination. Very poor service and ruined my vacation, because we had no transportation other that buses to get around.

Would not honor rental cost - poor serviceNegativ: We arrived within the 2 hour pickup window clearly stated on the customer rental agreement. However, both the sales rep (and the manager) would not recognize our rate and were pushing us to pay $240 more for the 1 day rental. When we refused, they started bargaining - reducing it to $120 USD, then $85 as their "final offer." As a global brand, we expected Hertz to maintain it's quality - no matter its location. We were hoping to avoid such bad experiences like this by going with your company. We ended up just canceling the car for the day -- missing all the activities we already planned and booked for the day (losing that money and our valuable vacation time).

Besides charging me almost twice as much due to out-of-the-blue fees (including "hotel fees," and a supposed sales tax of 64%, which was further taxed at the end), when I requested to talk with the manager, the sales person said he was needed at some other location, which was evidently false as I could confirm when I said I could wait. The manager refused to talk with us, notwithstanding the fact that he was there the whole time. The guy at the desk didn't much seem to care, either. They also said they did not have a record of our booking or a car...although they later found one. Full insurance (although if you have an accident it is not full insurance) is required. Terrible experience in Mexico CityPositiv: Car was ok - clean, though the back suspensions were already damaged and not the model type we had requested through priceline (one level down)Negativ: No respect for the reservation, and the quoted price. Staff looked like they hated working in that office, and was less than friendly. Unfortunately, we were in a hurry to leave, and renting the car took 1.5h, so battled a bit, but could not get through. Here are some details.
1. They could not find the reservation.
2. Once we had a payless customer rep on the phone, they said they would honor the price of the reservation but did not.
3. Bottomline - rental price / day was multiplied by 4; we had to pay for the full insurance that supposedly is compulsory in Mexico City (which is not true after verifying). I came out to 270$ for a 4 day rental instead of the $20 quoted by priceline.
4. We returned the car half a day earlier, and did not get any appreciation or discount. Also had to go through a 10 min inspection (which thankfully did not lead to any extra charges), though it would not have mattered since they made us pay the full insurance.
This experience was terrible. Hard to say whether it was Payless or just this office. However, this was bad enough for me not to ever want to be a Payless customer. I would also recommend that Payless takes a close look at this Mexico Juarez office.

I got a car with 70,000 kms that used to vibrate when I drive more than 110 km/hr. It was an old car. And the fact that I ended up paying MORE for my reservation is never nice.

Mind you I went down the road to another rental company and they took my card put a piece of paper over it and with the bottom of a pen were able to get the credit card numbers to appear. Now I know we all learned how to do that in kindergarten, they must've skipped that year at Thrifty. Guess I'll never rent from them again.

The agent was not helpful and just shrugged her shoulders and said she couldn't do anything about it. When we asked for referrals to other agencies, she said she didn't know of anyone else. How can we trust Thrifty again to make a reservation and know feel secure that this won't happen again? We ended up having to go to a different company which turned out to be a scam and we ended up renting a car for almost double the price Thrifty quoted and it was off of the airport premises through a small agency. This took us many hours and we didn't get to our hotel until well after midnight.

I showed up to pick up my car rental at the agreed time and first of all the agent showed up at the counter 90 minutes later. Then he told me that the vehicle I was assigned apparently was kept by the previous customer without notice and therefore I'd need to wait for a couple of hours and they would find another car for me. After repeated follow up calls I was just being told each time that no other vehicle (any category) was available and basically "don't call us, we'll call you when we have a solution". Needless to say that a solution was never found. I ended up stuck in Mexico city and had to travel to Acapulco by bus 2 days later thereby losing 2 out of the 5 nights I had booked... Bottom line I will never try to do anything with Thrifty car ever again and frankly I don't think they care much...
Negativ: They tried to charge me $1000 usd for insurance , $65 a day, after shuttling me to their faraway lonely office. Scammers.
