Ridiculous Airport RulesPositiv: They won't let you rent a car one way with a credit card that says "debit" on it. All of my bank cards say "debit" on them right above the visa/mc logo but can be run as a credit card. Because I had no credit cards on me that don't say debit on them, I couldn't rent a car. And since all of the other car rental companies were sold out in the city, ALL of them, I had to take a freakin' Greyhound home. This policy is ridiculous and if it continues to be enforced YOU need to tell people about it ahead of time so they don't get screwed at the airport.
Loved the New Beetle Turbo!Positiv: The car was comfortable and happy. Driving from Reno to Lake Tahoe up the mountain with curves and elevation changes was a treat. Negativ: I have become so accustomed to the control layout in Japanese cars, the German philosophy of putting the wiper stock on the right and the cruise control/lights on the left was confusing. However, the set up for Bluetooth was very easy and worked well.
Great Car, Description & Price Need to be More ClearPositiv: I loved the car and renting the actual car was great. Negativ: The cost of the car at checkout was actually TWICE as much as Kayak stated. It went from $250 up to $450 and that's a huge junk that I was not expecting and couldn't afford. Nevertheless I was in a foreign city set to drive to another foreign city so I had I choice. This just makes me very hesitant to rent from a third party in the future.
I check very closely to see if the companies provided shuttle service to the airport upon returning the car, Kayak stated it did, yet when I got there tjeu told me to get an Uber. Another unexpected cost & took extra time that I didn't have before catching a flight.

There were two separate lines labeled different car rental places but the same guy kept going back and forth between the two. Seems like they were understaffed.

Budget went above and beyond with a 15 passenger van rentalPositiv: The staff was extremely hospitable and the vehicle was in awesome shape. We originally signed up for a 12 passenger van but a 15 passenger is what we really needed and Budget came through. The van was in awesome shape and drove like a beauty.

Positiv: The staff was friendly and helpful and the price of the car rental was 50% of what it would have been if I had rented it at the airport location.Negativ: I didn't like that the only way to get the 5 miles to the Reno rental car location from the airport was to take a taxi which cost $16 each direction. I wish that had been made clear to me when I rented the vehicle. Also, the wash bay was broken so the car exterior was very dirty which was unfortunate but understandable.
Otherwise, the staff was friendly and helpful and the vehicle was fine.

Great Tip from the Reno agent!Positiv: I picked up the little rental car (Yaris) from Reno/Lake Tahoe airport and the agents asked if I wanted to pre-pay for my tank of gas. She alerted me to the fact that gas is generally more expensive in CA and NV. Thus, I prepaid for a tank of gas at #3.07/gal. Sure enough, the least expensive gas I found in CA was $3.20/gallon.

Positiv: They instructed us to proceed to any Firestone Tire Center to address a leaking tire. Discovered the tire had a nail and was not repairable. A new tire was put on and we were back on the road. Firestone Tire Center took care of everything with no hassle or charges. Negativ: They would not pick up at the airport even though they state free pickup. Enterprise office that handled the booking was close to the airport but we had to walk to a hotel across a dangerous four lane highway (with luggage in tow) to meet up with the pickup driver. We are in our 70's....It was not an easy task.

At the last minute, the rep says he "forgot" about another option - an 8 passenger car that was wheat we had rented in the first place. Once we are on our way, all was good again.

15 Passenger Ford Transit VanPositiv: The Mill St. Enterprise in Reno, NV was awesome. Although off-site from the airport, the Mill St. branch went out of their way to pick me and my family up from the Reno airport. We had six (6) passengers, eleven (11) checked bags and twelve (12) carry-ons. We were headed to Lake Tahoe for a ski vacation and were really pressed for time. We had family photos scheduled and a surprise marriage proposal planned in the early evening. Enterprise understood our need to depart the airport quickly and to get in and out of the rental car office quickly. They picked us up in the van that we had rented and I only needed to sign paperwork at the branch office. With people and luggage already loaded, we were on our way within 15 minutes. Great experience from beginning to end! Negativ: The 15 passenger Ford Transit van had plenty of room for people. However, a 10 or 12 passenger van with fewer seats and more storage space for luggage would have been preferred for our trip from the Reno airport to Lake Tahoe. Luggage had to be move around and over seats in order to get people and luggage to fit. This was a slight inconvenience but given the size of my party and amount of luggage, there wasn't too many other others to consider at the price I was given. A 15 passenger van for less than $490 for the week.

Bad 1st impressionNegativ: I showed up at the Reno airport Hertz rental desk to pick up my pre-booked car. My birthday was the day before my pickup and I didn’t realize my license expired, which the lady at the front counter informed me of. I asked if there was any way they could work with me as it was MLK day and the DMV would certainly be closed. She informs me that I can renew online and show them proof. I renew my license online and show her my renewal confirmation on my iPhone. She asks me to print it out at hotel a decent walk from the airport. She’s making the process more complicated. I end up asking another rental car place to print it out for me and they were gracious enough to help me out and print the confirmation. So i go back to the Hertz counter with my renewal paper in-hand but the lady still refuses to let me rent the car after all the hoops she made me jump through. I ended up asking Enterprise if they can help me out (given my unique situation) and they were more than happy to oblige, they even wished me a happy birthday. All-in-all, I was in a desperate situation and they knowingly didn’t help me out one bit. They wasted an hour of my time When they could have just told me ‘no’ from the beginning. I’m not planning on renting from Hertz ever again.

Didn't provide a receipt or any kind of confirmation detailing our drop off or closing of rental contract. Due to Hertz staff, there were charges I was unaware of on my account. Negativ: The service that Hertz on Vassar in Reno was horrible! The two girls who were at the counter couldn't have been more disengaged with me (customer). They didn't even smile. Very non customer service oriented. I read some reviews AFTER I rented the car and most said the same thing. The battery died twice and they didn't even act like they cared. The car rattled so much.
It took me 45 minutes to rent the car. She disappeard in the back and said they had to wash it. I was 10 minutes late on Sat 10/23 because my flight was late. I got there and they were still there but wouldn't help me because they said the computers were turned off, so I had to wait until Monday to get the car. Still had to wait 45 minutes! No apology nothing.
When I turned it in after they were all looking at something on the computer when I arrived and wouldn't even engage with me until THEY were ready,
Never again will I rent there!

Drop off Positiv: I liked the car. Negativ: I did not like that I had to rent the car from Avis/Budget because Payless was closed when my flight got in and when I went to drop off the key was told I did not drop it off in the right location, since I didn’t actually get the car from Payless I was not told where to drop it off.
Early Flight SuggestionNegativ: I have one suggestion that would help future customers. If a note can be included when the car is booked that includes the hours the shuttle is available, along with letting people know they need to call a cab, if their flight is early morning before the shuttle runs, that would be helpful.

Charging for regular use of carPositiv: I liked the price and value of renting from Payless.Negativ: I did not like the additional charge that would have been incurred in I didn't clean my rental car. It seems to be that minor dirt still would have gotten me a serious charge in the range of greater than 300 dollars. There was no gauge as to how clean the car had to be. This additional scrutiny is because I went to Burning Man festival. I think it is bias to charge your renters this additional fee if the car is not beyond normal use dirty.
