Negativ: Dropping the car off at 30th Street Station was OK but confusing as there were no lanes assigned to "drop off" or attendants around to assist. About a minute after parking in any lane, someone came over to our car - who was on his phone at the time - and checked us out. He said I would get a receipt within 5-10 minutes but I still, a week later, haven't received anything but the payment went through. Would have liked a little more precision there.

PHL rental Positiv: Great service from Kevin. He gave me an upgrade to make up for the long wait ( three busses passed, leaving me out in the cold for 25 minutes upon arrival.) Excellent service from him and very friendly. He changed my first impression and overall review of Alamo. I especially appreciated the kindness and warm car! At drop off the attendant was friendly and efficient. The bus ride back was longer than normal due to another customer’s request but the driver asked if I minded before the longer route and delay and was very nice. Overall, a great experience. Negativ: Long wait in the cold for bus. Attendant at desk was unfriendly. Very minimal information was offered. Thanks to Kevin for altering my initial impression and going above and beyond to make me happy and comfortable.
Denied rental with 2 DL's!Positiv: How polite they were!Negativ: I was denied a rental vehicle with a reservation. I had TWO driver licenses (3 technically). I have my NJ license which is still valid. Then I had my Colorado temporary DL issued 2 days prior AND my Colorado plastic AND my motorcycle license to prove that's why I needed a new license (for my endorsement). So, not only was I denied a rental, but they told me if I didn't walk to a different agency, of have to get a shuttle back to the airport to get another shuttle to a different car rental place. TSA accepted my THREE forms of ID, but not a car rental agency. So because i didn't have a reservation, I had to spend $266.80 at a different car rental agency opposed to my $127 quote worth Alamo!

I didn't like that I couldn't get a receipt after I dropped it off.
I didn't like how I had to stop to fill up the tires in the car because they were low. We had to travel 2.5 hours to central PA from PHL. Luckily, I know what I am doing, but the front tire was really low.
I didn't like the waiting room at AVIS central. It's a stale place.

There was no car to rentPositiv: The woman behind the counter had been berated by the man in front of me in line but she maintained professional behavior.Negativ: I was dismayed when I was told that while I was able to make a reservation through Kayak there was actually no car available. The woman helping tried to call another location, didn't get through, and told me to "Go to the airport, they might have a car". I only tried to rent a car because of an unforeseeable event with my own car. I can certainly understand that getting a rental on the day of is unusual but I was forced to miss an important event because I stopped planning alternatives when I was granted a reservation through the site. Also, I was charged for the insurance at the time I made the reservation which is frustrating since there was never a car to insure.
Negativ: My expectations for the car rental experience are always pretty low, but Avis definitely fell well below. After waiting in line behind only 3 other customers for 40 minutes (there was only 1 counter person), we received the keys to our Ford Escape. After loading all of our suitcases in the car, we discovered that the entire inside of the main car was FILTHY. I am unsure how someone could trash a rental car like this, but they did. After AGAIN waiting in line we were given another car (no apologies upgrades or rebates offered). This car we discovered after exiting the rental lot only had a third of a tank of gas (and later found that it had issues with "reverse"). Over an hour behind schedule, we called Avis and were told to take a picture of our gas gauge! This of course was met with skepticism upon return, and again there was no apology or offer of compensation. I'll book elsewhere next time.
Customer service was lackingPositiv: It was a good car with no mechanical problems, with a CD player and good A/C.Negativ: I wanted to extend the rental for an additional day (at least) and to return it to a different location, but the Avis reps couldn't tell me if there'd be extra fees and what they'd be.

Positiv: The ease of picking my car, using the app, and the quickness and ease of returning it. Negativ: There was trash still in the car when we picked it up and the fuel tank was only 3/4 fuel. They adjusted the fuel on the rental but still would have liked to have left with a full tank.

Total rip-offPositiv: I was charged more than twice what Kayak said it would cost. Avis refused to fix the charges so I had to dispute it with my credit card. They lied about the costs to me. My car had stains all over the seats and all the preset stations were one genre (rap) Avis gave me the run around and ripped me off royaly. It did not matter that I made this reservation thru Kayak. kayak charged me for the insurance on top of Avis charging me for it.
Expensive one way - bait and switchNegativ: $360 for a one day rental. Because of high demand from a recent storm and flight cancellations, I had to pay this high rate. I paid for a premium car. When I got there there wasn't any but stayed I could do an SUV for $32 more. In this scenario, National would give you that upgrade at no additional cost. I felt I didn't have a choice in this case.
Then to get a car that already has 20,000 miles on it was a bit disappointing, felt like she led me to an older car because it was a one way rental.

Terrible ManagementPositiv: I liked leaving the lotNegativ: - Waited 20 minutes for the shuttle. Saw 3 Enterprise, Hertz, and Avis shuttles before the Budget shuttle arrived. Asked driver if they were understaffed and he said yes, he was the only one working. This was at 4 pm on a Wednesday.
- Counter had 2 people working with line out the door. Asked to speak to manager. Took 10 minutes. Manager unprofessional and condescending. I was told car was a silver Corolla. When I got out to the spot it was a black Kia.
- Manager did not want to be bothered with the inaccuracy or the fact the vehicle was not present. He couldn't do enough to get rid of me. Will not be going to Budget again.
- It is obvious that the facility is understaffed do to the incompetency of the management. The old saying "The fish stinks from the head down" is so true here.

Incredibly rude service at Philly airportNegativ: Long wait at airport to get car, long wait to drop off. The people were not friendly at the counter, car was not ready, and the person at the counter just sighed and complained that she gets to go to lunch after she was done with me.
Could not help but feel that they did not care about the customer with a brusque, "Bring a copy of your gas receipt, taken from within 3 miles of the airport" command I was given when saying that I would fill the tank up with gas myself, as if I was lying or trying to put one over on them.
The pitch was full of attempted upcharges, ended up paying way more than I thought I was quoted. I have never used you Budget before, and will never will again.
Budget at PHL - NEVER AGAIN!!Positiv: Pick-up and drop-off were good. Bringing the car back was OK, but the check-in person was slow even when I as the only one bringing in a car at the time..Negativ: Getting a car was horrible. Even those who had the "speedy" service took more than half an hour to get a car. I got out of baggage claim around 2:30 p.m. and expected to be on my way by 3:00 p.m. as I always did every time I had to rent a car at Tampa (where I was coming from). Budget's shuttle got me there less than 10 minutes later.
From arriving at 2:40 p.m., I didn't leave until almost 4:30 p.m. - when I had expected to reach my final destination. They had three clerks handling TOTAL about 4 customers in front of me.

It was as if they were in junior high. It's unlikely I will rent from Dollar again any time soon.
Terrible customer serviceNegativ: Were out of car I ordered so offered a totally unsuitable subcompact and a $30 discount. I asked for one of the many minivans sitting outside and was made to wait while the unhelpful, rude agent spoke with her manager. She eventually stormed off to "smoke a cigarette" while the manager silent threw me the keys to a dirty minivan. The whole interaction was intimidating and depressing. I would seriously think twice before working with this franchise again.

And then was charged extra on top of that because we were sent to pick it up at another location. Did not arrive at destination hotel on time despite paying extra for hotel fees. Was told by the enterprise manager that it's a first come first serve and not by how long you reserved the vehicle.
Negativ: I use a debit card only, I was told on one ways I cannot use it. I don't understand why. I don't want a credit card, I have awesome finances and don't want to mess it up. I shouldn't be punished for this. If you want place some sort of hold that would be ok.

Cash isn't good enough.Negativ: My daughter and I arrived in Philly via Amtrak from New York for a college tour at Temple and then at Swarthmore. They want to put a hold for $400 on a credit card. Give them my debit card - for an account in which there is well over $2,500. Put a hold on that? Oh nooooooo, not with an out of state drivers license. (Note: If I were in state - I wouldn't need a rental car!)
Nope - they won't rent me a car. At all.
They'll call and refer me to National - because THEY take debit cards (the equivalent of cash!).
In the end, we miss the entire college tour at Temple AND I get the pleasure of spending $613 for a rental car instead of the $309 I expected.

Location in North Philadelphia was the nastiest dirtiest part of town. Although they gave us a complimentary upgrade to full size since they did not have the standard available, I have gotten way nicer full sized rentals from other companies that have more features and are a lot cleaner. The guy at the pick up desk was not the best with customer service... I asked him if spouses get to drive the car as well. And he kept trying to up sell us. I HATE this about certain companies (like this one). He said he could add a spouse on as a driver for a fee instead of telling me it is actually FREE and included if we just took a couple minutes while waiting for the car to be ready to sign up for their rewards program. Not to mention we specifically drove over an hour out of the way to save money at this rental location when I could've just spent the same amount with all their added fees at different rental car companies closer to me! Just overall not happy at all about this experience. The Hertz drop off location at the Philadelphia international airport is also an absolute mess. The employees did not give us any direction as to where we should drop the car off and what steps we needed to do. They didn't even talk to us and was very confusing. they all just stood around talking to each other. Like WHERE IS YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE?!?!
Negativ: I wish the car was set up for safety in winter conditions — the windshield wasn't properly conditioned and became very difficult to see out of on salty roads. So, so dangerous!!
The car was also not equipped with snow tires, making it challenging to drive and causing more than 1lengthy re-routing. I felt very unsafe on the road this weekend!
Negativ: The car didn't have any windshield wiper fluid, which caused problems when it began snowing and salt and dirt from the road got splashed on to the windshield and couldn't be cleaned off. I couldn't see and had to stop at multiple gas stations to clean off the windshield. The drop-off location was not located at the address given to me, so after driving all the way out to the drop off location, I had to drive back and drop it off somewhere else in a snow storm. Hertz customer support on the phone was totally unhelpful.

Car was disgustingPositiv: The people were friendly and seemed willing to help. Negativ: The first vehicle was disgusting so I asked for another vehicle, which was just as bad as the first. For $1200 this was nothing less than a ripoff and I will do my best to rent with Hertz again.
Negativ: I read the fine print, but still wasn’t notified in advance that hertz does not accept debit cards or that they hold an additional $200 deposit. The reservation and insurance were non refundable and I was not able to rent the car or travel for the holidays since I couldn’t get my money back. Better transparency for policies would be an improvement in the booking process, though I doubt I will take the risk again.

Don't rent from Hertz Philadelphia downtown Amtrack location Positiv: NothingNegativ: Got to the location and they said they didn't have any cars despite having a Hertz confirmation number. Waited for 2 hours at the location (was told there might be a "cancellation") and miraculously 30 minutes before close there was a car available but it would cost more. Having no other choice (had to be somewhere 4 hours away), we took the rental. When we got to the car it was filthy (not cleaned inside or out, dirty, animal hair and strange smells) and had less than a 1/2 tank of gas. Felt like we were taken advantage of because of our situation. Not even sure this was rental inventory. There were plenty of cars in their lot when we left.
Positiv: My flight to PHL was late Fri evening and 30th Street Station National office was closed. However, the agent who I called to re-book for the next morning was outstanding, She looked up my old preferred customer (or whatever) number and got me a better deal.Then the next morning at the desk I asked about upgrading to a larger vehicle and the agent gave it me at no increase in cost.

National Car Rental is an AMAZING company to work with!Positiv: From the first click on-line, to being greeted at the reception desk to sign-in at the National counter to pick up the rental car....just incredible. Everyone on the National team was top notch in their attention to details, and their customer service: stellar, truly. To the attendant who finalized our transaction paperwork, to the team member who escorted us to our rental car...simply amazing. We were struck by National's competence and we vowed to never use any other service except the best: National. A model company that all others should be measured by...exemplary in every aspect.

The first car offered was a Nissan that someone had sprayed the gages on the dash with something that had dried and couldn't come off, making them unreadable. The woman at the counter gave me an attitude when she couldn't understand my email address. Never again National Car Rental!
Not as advertisedPositiv: The staff was very nice.Negativ: I rented with Payless because it was the only one that stated they were at the airport. IT WAS NOT. Driving to the rental location at night with a wife and two children was NOT cool. My wife stated she would not have done this without me. The car was clean and performed well but smelled like smoke. Again, not something two young children should experience. Then, to top it off, the charges were higher than listed in the agreement. Was even charged an airport facility tax (not sure about the exact name because I don't have the receipt with me) but was not renting at the airport. Never again.
Bad Car and too smallPositiv: There was nothing much to like. The shuttle drivers were helpful.Negativ: 1) One has to call from the airport to get the shuttle to come. And then you wait indefinitely till the shuttle shows up.
2) On our reservation it clearly said that we would get a car that was Hyundai Elantra or similar. We got a Hyundai Accent. Clearly it was much smaller than the Elantra. We could barely fit our bags.
3) This car didn't even have cruise control. The tire pressure indicator stayed on. We let the Payless person know but he said that was okay - the indicator hat to be reset. I am not sure I believe him because it was unusually cold and tires tend to deflate in very low temperatures.
4) The guy charged us $5/day to add a driver in addition to myself. But then he said he couldn't show it on the bill as additional driver so he put it under Roadside assistance. I think he tricked us into buying roadside assistance and adding a driver was free.

The office is filthy, disorganized and there is trash and paper work everywhere. I am concerned at the safety of my personal information in that environment. It also is a terrible signal to a paying customer. I travel all over the country and this location was the worst I have visited in 5+ years.
I would not go back... even the young lady who helped me was VERY nice.

Overbooked Negativ: Car not clean, unlimited mileage but only if I drove in 3 states, if I wanted to go to DC, VA, or anywhere else, it cost additional charge. This should be disclosed up front, b4 rental.
Car not back to rent and wanted to charge a holdinPositiv: Did not rent, because the price change when I got to the rental place.
Positiv: The gal at check in was very nice.Negativ: Car smelled like cigarettes. A caution air tire pressure light was on at all times, but there was a little not that said to ignore the light. This was a little worrisome.
Positiv: pricing was one thingNegativ: . a little seedy. car was not clean inside or out. the rental signing process a little outdated and in an uncomfortable setting. In the end, the pricing was not that much cheaper than the nationals/brand names. The policy about the rental period is strict. severe penalty for dropping off after 24 hour period...so ridiculous that I uber'ed to a couple places after I returned the car. My flight came in early and I picked up an hour earlier than anticipated but was leaving at my expected time 26 hours later. 2 extra hours was double the cost.

Negativ: Had to call to find out that we wanted the Colonial Airport Parking shuttle after we waited for a while hoping for a Rent-A-Wreck shuttle.

It was a big hassle to get into the lot and find the car. The lot attendant was very rude!
As my wife concluded, they have ZERO customer service.
Positiv: Due to trouble with the mechanics of the car Rent a Wreck is refunding a day's charge. This should be back in account within 3 days, they say.Negativ: The muffler came semidetached and it sounded like a street rod. I'm nor sure if this was a safety hazard or not but it wasn't good.

Positiv: Everything went smoothy. The vehicle was clean, no strange odors (smoke or otherwise), and staff was courteous.

Positiv: Car was ready. Negativ: Attendant at drop off tricked me into letting him take me to airport and then asked for tip.
Read the fine print--Thrifty is not so ThriftyPositiv: The car was clean and mechanically sound. Negativ: Shame on me for not reading the fine print. I failed to notice that Thrifty charges extra for any driver, including your spouse. Adding my wife to the rental almost doubled the cost before taxes. In the future I will use Budget or Enterprise, which end up being considerably better values even if their initial charges are a bit more.

I was very clear on my reservation and I read through all the terms and conditions, and NO WHERE was there any language about an extra fee for dropping the car off at a different location... No. Where.

Positiv: Quick pick-up at airport and drop offNegativ: Thought we were renting a toyota rav-4 but got a Kia. Were told they didn't have toyota rav-4's The kia doesn't have the head room of a toyota and bumped my head getting in and out!
Positiv: Drop off was fine and the area was ok. I didn't like the location since it wasn't really well marked.
Positiv: It was a quick drop off. Negativ: - Really bad service from the attendant at pick up showing bad mood and lack of respect to clients. Another lady was careful enough to intervene and finish the pick up.
